Addressing the dimensions of trans-boundary water use

Since time immemorial, the Nile River has been the major source of life for those African countries within the Nile Basin. Life can therefore be meaningless for people living in these countries in case of any dangers surrounding the river. This was revealed by the Technical Coordinator of the Nile Basin Discourse (NDB), Mr Melakou Tegegn in an interactive meeting with Environmental Journalists at Hotel Equatoria. According to Melakou, the NBD was established by the 10 member countries that are within the Nile Basin. This follows the establishment of the Nile Basin Initiative in 1999 with the mandate to address the socio-economic concerns of the Nile Basin riparian countries, which include Burundi, Egypt, Ethiopia, Democratic Republic of Congo, Kenya, Rwanda, Sudan, Eritrea, Tanzania and Uganda.
