Bihar flood toll mounts to 260

Patna, Aug. 12 (PTI): With 38 fresh deaths reported from five worst flood-hit districts, the toll in the current spell of floods in Bihar today mounted to 260 and the state's road link with the Northeast was snapped by the swollen Kosi, submerging national highway 31 at several places in Khagaria and Bhagalpur districts.

Despite flood water continuing to recede from the affected areas after scanty rainfall over the past few days, the situation in the 19 flood-hit districts, where nearly 15 million people are in the grip of the calamity, remained grim.

One person died as police made lathicharge on a group of villagers protesting against lack of relief in Saharsa district today, official sources said.
