Flood havoc continues, over 30 die

New Delhi, Aug. 14 (PTI): Incessant rains lashed several parts of Bihar, Himachal Pradesh, Uttarakhand and West Bengal today, triggering flash floods and landslides that resulted in the death of over 30 people. In Bihar, the situation worsened since yesterday with 18 deaths reported from six districts, taking the toll in the current wave of floods to 278. The distribution of relief materials was also seriously affected.

High alert was sounded in the mines of Bharat Coking Coal Limited at Dhanbad as incessant rains caused the water level in them to cross the danger mark. Production in the open cast mines of BCCL and the Dhanbad-based colliery of Eastern Coal Limited has come to a halt as miners were called back from the pits due to safety reasons.
