Statesman News ServiceCOOCH BEHAR, Sept. 7: The overall flood situation deteriorated in Cooch Behar district today following continuous rainfall over the past 24 hours. Water level in all the major rivers has increased. The Mansai has crossed the danger level in Mathabhanga. Red signal has been flashed over the Torsa and the Jaldhaka and yellow signal over the Raidak. The water level in the Gadadhar and Kaljani has also increased.
A record rainfall of 300.20-mm was recorded at Tufanganj today. Cooch Behar and Mathabhanga, on the other hand, recorded 165-mm and 105-mm of rainfall, respectively. The lower areas of Cooch Behar, Tufanganj and Mathabhanga are also reeling under rainwater. In Tufanganj's Ward No 10, people have no other option but to use boats to meet their daily needs.
