88 Killed In India Flooding In September

Kolkata, India (AHN) - Since the start of September, at least 88 people have died in rain-related accidents in eastern India, and tens of thousands have been stranded in government relief camps, reports said.

In recent days, rain-related accidents in the state of West Bengal have claimed 48 lives, a relief minister said Saturday.

"The death toll rose to 48 today with 19 more people dying of snake bites, electrocutions and wall collapses," Relief minister Mortaza Hossain was quoted as saying by Agency France Press.

"More than three million people have been displaced by the flooding in eight districts," he said.
