UPDATE STATUS REPORT OF FLOOD SITUATION IN ORISSA 22.09.2008

The floods are of unprecedented dimension and it is not an exaggeration to compare it with the kosi floods in Bihar.- chief secretary orissa.

o Districts Affected by Flood: 17
o No. of Blocks Affected: 81
o No. of Villages Affected: 1017
o Crop Area Affected: 155,000 Acres
o Population Affected: 25 lakh
o Animals affected: 6,59,362(Cattle-3, 20,292, Goat, sheep etc-1, 22,268, Others-1, 16,802)
o Persons resued-2.66 lakh
o Flood relief has extended for 15 days
o Death toll- 25
o Breaches-28
o This flood havoc after 28 years
o 45 gram panchayats have disconnected
o Three more helicopters sought
o Schools have closed till Tues days
o Move restricted in flood affected roads
o Damage has exceeded form recent Bihar flood
o Chief minister asked centre from CRF worth of Rs1500 crores
o Initial estimate of damage may be worth of Rs 2500 crores
o Puri- 850 viiages comprising 6 lakh people- and cut off from road
o Athagada has completely cut off
o Few persons death was due to colaps
o One government servant died while taking relief in country boat, named surendra swain
o One youth was swept away in state capital
o Two deaths occurred in Jagatsing pur due to 11 breaches
o Blocks affected: Gardapur, Marsaghai, Mahakalpara, Derabish, Pattamundai, Kendrapara , Aul, Rajaknika, Rajanagar
o Around 300000 are in flood water
o No of breaches: 6 on Kendrapada district,
o Banki. Khandapada, Kantilo, Bhapur -200000 pople are in the flood water
o In western orissa more than 2000 acres have damaged due to flood water
o Bhawanipatana, Rayagada, Boudh, Sonepue disconnected due to road breached
