Village green row hits flood plan

A row over a village green could delay a major £50m flood defence scheme for the River Trent in Nottinghamshire.

The Environment Agency said it needed planning permission for a wall across the green in Attenborough, which was hit by severe flooding in 2000.

But some villagers, who use the green for football, cricket and bowls, oppose the route and want the wall to go behind the village green.

The agency said the plan could be shelved if permission was not granted.
