Flood damage in Czech Rep exceeds 150 billion in 1997-2006

Prague- The damage caused by floods in the Czech Republic in 1997-2006 has exceeded 150 billion crowns, including the 14.5 billion crowns of damage caused to the water management system, says a report released by the Agriculture Ministry.

The biggest damage was caused by the 2002 floods that hit one-third of the country's territory. The flooding then destroyed property worth more than 75 billion crowns.

The devastating floods that lasted ten days from August 7 to August 17 hit the most severely south, central and north Bohemia and large areas in Moravia were also flooded.

The flooding afflicted 800 villages, destroyed 260 bridges, damaged more than 30 highroad sections and more than 150 local roads.
