BHUBANESWAR: After heavy rains lashed the State on Wednesday, all the major rivers were in spate threatening another spell of flood in the coastal, northern as well as southern districts.Mahanadi, Baitarani, Subarnarekha, Budhabalanga and Vansadhara were close to their warning marks and rising. With the monsoon trough passing through both West Bengal and Orissa, more showers are in the offing during next two or three days.
The Flood Control Room said, Mahanadi was closing in to the warning mark at all the three gauge sites- Khairmal, Tikarpara and Naraj- and still on the rise. At least 10 sluice gates of Hirakud reservoir were thrown open to give passage to excess water.
Baitarani was swelling too. The river was showing a rising trend at Champua, Sompatna, Anandpur and Akhuapada. At Akhuapada, the river had reached the warning mark of 17.83 metre.
