Cabinet releases Rs 1,292 crore to flood-affected states

NEW DELHI: The Union Cabinet on Thursday discussed the grim flood situation in many parts of the country which has so far claimed nearly 1,500 lives. The worst affected states are Bihar, Uttar Pradesh, West Bengal, Orissa, Maharashtra, Gujarat, Andhra Pradesh, Kerala and Karnataka.

Of the Rs 4,258 crore Calamity Relief Fund (CRF) for 2007-08, the government had already provided Rs 1,292 crore to the 20 affected states, information and broadcasting minister P R Dasmunsi said. He said Prime Minister Manmohan Singh had ordered that further funds be made available to the affected states at the earliest.
