North Orissa rivers rising
Monday August 20 2007 11:03 IST
BHUBANESWAR/BALASORE: More than 30 villages in four blocks of Balasore district have been inundated by Subarnarekha and Jalaka rivers which were in spate following heavy rains triggered by the low pressure on Sunday.

Mostly low-lying areas had been flooded. Subarnarekha, which crossed the danger mark of 10.36 metres, was still rising and the situation was being monitored. The four blocks affected in Balasore district are Basta, Jaleswar, Bhograi and Baliapal.

The low pressure area now lay over Gangetic West Bengal, North Orissa and adjoining north-west Bay of Bengal. Balasore district has been battling with flood conditions since July first week.

Several road links, electricity and tele-communication facilities have been disrupted following breaches on river embankments.
