Sebelius seeks approval of flood relief

TOPEKA (AP) — Gov. Kathleen Sebelius wants the state to give money to southeast Kansas businesses to help them recover from flooding.

She is proposing programs to help businesses reopen and keep jobs in afflicted communities, repair or rebuild their buildings, replace damaged machinery and rent space while original stores and offices are under repair.

Legislative leaders planned to review her proposals this morning and decide whether to create the programs using the State Finance Council’s power to spend emergency funds. The council consists of the governor and the Legislature’s top eight leaders.
