Situation improves in Assam

Press Trust of India
GUWAHATI, Aug. 5: The flood situation in Assam continued to improve today as the waters of the Brahmaputra and its tributaries receded further. Official reports reaching here said the water-level of almost all the rivers was receding and only low-lying areas were under water.
The situation in the worst-hit Dhemaji and Lakhimpur districts, however, remained unchanged and thousands of victims were in relief camps. Relief and rehabilitation measures are on in full swing in the 26 flood affected districts. Twenty-three people have lost their lives so far with more than 60 lakh population affected in the current wave of flood.
