Heller says health of local economy, watershed itself are priorities

Efforts for legislation to resolve Walker River issues, trying to get more money for seeding after wildfires, efforts to change the mining law, technology education funding were among subjects discussed by Nevada Congressman Dean Heller during a recent conference call.

On potential Walker River Basin legislation, Heller said public hearings on should be conducted in the area next year on a proposed bill, adding that drafting of such a bill is "so preliminary, I don't anticipate to see any legislation until August of next year."

The freshman Congressman from Carson City, who represents the state's 2nd Congressional District, also said he's spoken with farmers and ranchers in Lyon County and has told them his top priority is the economic well-being of the valleys and the health of the watershed.
